The homeowners purchased an early 1990s home outside of Raleigh, NC with very little updates made since original construction.   A local architect designed an extension in the back of the house that would become the kitchen and a new primary bedroom and bath.   The homeowner ’s connection to our designers and knowledge of cabinet choices prompted them to request joint communication between the local architect and our team to design a new kitchen in the addition, along with incorporating a bath in the second floor new addition.  The project for our scope also included the remodel of two existing bathrooms.

Besides reconfiguring the old footprint in the back of the house to include a pantry area and new laundry room, the original supporting wall of the back of the house became the divide between extension. The living room opened up into a new dining space, the new kitchen area, with a large center island of cabinetry, a sitting bar, a drink fridge. To maintain structural support and provide plumbing to the second floor, we placed the ovens at the end of the support column with a pantry cabinet on the other side facing the living room area.  The supporting wall on kitchen side accommodated a shallow counter and cabinetry that became the coffee bar.  Opposite, a full depth cabinet and counter became a beverage nook (or charging station) topped with a decorative cabinet.  Laundry room was designed with matching kitchen cabinetry, part of the original kitchen.  The final design allowed for a hallway from garage/laundry into the interior of the home without traversing the kitchen space.
