This kitchen was asking for a change from dated tile flooring, laminate countertops, wallpaper, and honey cabinetry, an also no longer served the family properly as their needs had changed over the years. With an adjacent dining room and separate breakfast nook around the corner, the client had no need for seating at the island anymore so the island was simplified in the new design. The separate hutch, previously with a lower counter and knee space for use as a desk, was changed to full storage with counter space for coffee. Cabinets were taken to the ceiling for maximum storage, and additional storage was gained by wrapping cabinetry around a corner, which also connected the kitchen to the breakfast nook. This provided bonus storage space including an appliance garage with integrated interior lighting when opened. All lighting in the space was upgraded, and added storage elements such as spice racks and double trash compartments were also included. The end result is functional for how the family uses their space today.
